The word ‘schizophrenia’ is derived from the Greek words for to ‘schizo’ (split) and ‘phren’ (mind). This splitting is related to the fragmentation of the thought process. OOOMS used this as inspiration to design a lamp where the ribbed surface creates two different shapes. The inner shape is a classic lampshade. The outside is more neutral, and looks a bit like a beehive. When turned on, the inner shape of the Schizo Lamp will be emphasized due to the translucency of the material.
At OOOMS we are intrigued by the history of The Netherlands.
A great way to get into contact with products of the past is by metal detecting. The idea that any signal could be a historical treasure is a feeling that’s highly addictive.
Now the finds have become an inspiration for a new OOOMS project; Dutch Romans. These are macro images of 2000 year old Roman coins that have been found in the Netherlands. While the focus with metal detecting is mainly on pristine quality, with the Dutch Romans project we are fascinated by the corrosion process, and the shapes and colors that come to life.
The coins that are used are all determined by professional archeologists. Each print carries the name of the emperor that once was clearly visible on the coins. In the description you can read the time period the coins were made, which is around 50 AD for most of them!

The Puzzleboard by OOOMS can be used in more ways than one: each board can be used on its own as a cutting board or serving plate, or put some boards together and you have super-sized your workspace. It’s ideal for cutting those long baguettes!
But the best thing is that any wineglass can be fitted into the blank spot of a board. Using the boards at parties allows guests to enjoy both wine & delicacies, while still having one hand free to greet other friends.

A nice thing about the human mind is that it only needs parts of information in order to get the whole idea, we easily fill in the gaps with information from past experiences. So to evoke an image of a plant, the outline of one will do. OOOMS created 3 silhouettes of ordinary houseplants, to be used at home in your windowsill or as desk divider at the office. The Silhouettes take up virtually no space and best of all; They don’t need water…

OOOMS offers creative workshops to design schools, colleges, academies and institutes. All workshops are custom made in consultation with the client.
Besides being devoted designers, Guido and Karin love to share their knowledge by facilitating workshops worldwide. They are certified educators and both teach one day a week at the University of Arts Utrecht and the Design Academy Eindhoven.
The goal of these workshops is not to design a perfect product but rather to provide insights into the design process and the associated challenges of rational thinking and manual skills. The method for the workshops is ‘learning by doing’, so a real hands on approach is demanded from all participants.
Through this workshop, I have learnt things that were beyond what I could learn in a normal classroom. I have learnt new ways to explore different materials. Something that the Dutch designers mentioned will remain etched in my mind ”Limitations of a material mainly exist in the mind.“ Alvin Ng Sing Por | Diploma in Interior Design, Year 2
It was a good learning experience through an iterative design process, in our case working with a very common material like paper we explored different ways of manipulating the material to transform it into a designed object. It was also a very hands on experience, working physically with the materials from beginning to end made it very dynamic and fun. Also the way Guido & Karin teach I thought was great because they had to pay attention to each of us and give us personal feedback on our ideas and concepts. Damaso Mayer | product design CEDIM, year 3
I feel that this workshop has really helped me understand more about how a designer works in a real company and how to approach design through material exploration in a project. Nazirah Kau Hui Ling | Diploma in Experience and Product
The best take away from workshop is that the design process should be about not thinking too much but just doing it. In my education, such a process has not been used and this workshop taught me to do so. Jane Ang Jia Ying | Diploma in Experience and Product Design, Year 3
Studio OOOMS has been invited to conduct a 5 day workshop at the Singapore Polytechnic. The title of the workshop is “Lost and Found”. This title is based on the free materials that have lost their original function and for which a new function will be found. The group assignment demands a real hands on approach, as well as the ability to make quick decisions and to be creative with limited materials. The programme places an emphasis on practice-oriented, creative work, complemented by short presentations and discussions.

Like many people we at OOOMS enjoy using Apple products. While using the iPad, we noticed it would be very convenient to be able to place the iPad on different angles, without having to hold it. Because we are designers we couldn’t resist making a stand ourselves.
This is what we came up with; Our iPad stand is an adjustable wooden stand which you can use at your desk, in the kitchen, on the couch, etc. It can pop-up into a versatile tablet stand that supports both portrait and landscape viewing modes on 3 different angles. Tiny magnets make sure the stand stays nicely folded when you transport it in your suitcase or bag. Our iPad stand also works for iPads with a cover, other tablets and even books!

Dimensions: 18.5 x 18.5 x 1 cm / 7.3 x 7.3 x 0.4 inch
The word schizophrenia is derived from the Greek words for to split (schidzein) and mind (phren). This splitting is related to fragmenting of the thought processes. OOOMS used this as inspiration to create a vase with a ribbed surface which creates two different shapes. The outside shape is based on a Greek Amphora vase. The inner shape is inspired by an brass Indian flower vase.
Do you know the feeling that you do not want to take a look at something, but you still do? The Roadkill carpet is a continuous struggle between attraction and repulsion. It’s a warm, soft, cuddly carpet that attracts you to take a nap on it. But at the same time its a repulsive image of a car-flattened, bloody fox.
